OUR HISTORY
In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Stewart in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage.
Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors.
Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into a larger home on Church Street in Warnham, running for 10 prosperous years. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open another Pole Place venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”!
At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients. With seven instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients. From teaching the basics to mastering tricks, giving new skills, confidence and empowering one another. You can be anyone you want to be in the studio with zero judgement and only encouragement from all of the Pole Place Family.
WHAT WE OFFER
We offer an alternative dance and fitness world for those who would like to try something new, exciting and different. Pole is a fun and enjoyable way of exercising at the same time as building confidence. We teach anyone and everyone regardless of your shape, size or fitness level. We teach Pole from beginner level through to intermediate, advanced and elite level.
SMALL CLASSES
We keep our classes small to ensure our clients receive personal attention with our instructors during class. We never have more than two people to a pole and most of the time we only have one person to a pole to ensure you get the most out of your classes.
PROFESSIONALLY STRUCTURED FUNDAMENTALS SYLLABUS
Our professionally structured Pole Place Fundamentals syllabus is designed to teach anyone from beginner through to professional and elite level. The syllabus focuses on foundational moves to create a perfect base to master tricks, transitions and spins at every level. From this we ensure a steady progression to make sure our clients are ready to approach those harder tricks within the higher levels with confidence, whilst gaining a wide pole vocabulary.
FRIENDLY, FULLY QUALIFIED, INSURED AND FIRST AID CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS
Our instructors are professionally trained and qualified to the highest standards. Continued professional development ensures they themselves are constantly learning and maintaining personal progression. All of our instructors are fully insured as well as First Aid qualified.

ABOUT POLE
WHAT IS POLE?
Pole is essentially a form of dancing, alongside a series of gymnastic exercises performed on a vertical pole and it's a great way to improve upper body, core strength, endurance, fitness, flexibility and even confidence.
Moving on and around the pole works a number of different parts of your body which will begin to improve your fitness level and tone your muscles in just a few weeks.
AEROBIC, ANAEROBIC EXERCISE AND PROMOTES WEIGHT LOSS
Pole is a mix of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise. From performing longer, less intense routines, to performing higher intensity pole moves. Anaerobic exercise vastly increases the size and quantity of powerful fast twitch muscle fibres, which also improves the power and strength of muscles. This type of exercise boosts your metabolism metabolic rate which burns calories efficiently and helps with the loss of body fat promoting weight loss. Regularly performing this type of exercise will aid in maintaining weight loss as it also helps increase the amount of calories your body is able to burn when it is at rest due to increased lean muscle mass.
BUILDS STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE
Pole helps to build your strength and endurance as you are required to use your own body weight as a resistance. Through learning new pole moves each week, performing conditioning exercises and dancing, you will begin to build more lean muscle mass which will increase your strength and improve your endurance and overall fitness levels.
BUILDS CORE MUSCLES
Pole works your core muscles in many different ways which will help you to build a strong and powerful core. Not only will this help you with your balance and stability with performing pole moves but it can also help with your posture and general day-to-day activities.
INCREASES FLEXIBILITY
Pole will help you to increase your flexibility as lots of moves you learn will require many muscles to stretch to their fullest length, and joints to use their full range of movement. Our gentle cool down stretches at the end of each class and during classes such a Stretch & Flex, we will teach you how to perform safe and effective stretching which will also help with your flexibility progress.
BALANCE & COORDINATION
Pole requires you to perform moves that use a number of different parts of your upper and lower body simultaneously, on and off the pole. Regularly performing these moves and learning new moves will continue to challenge your balance and coordination and in time will help to improve both together.
CONFIDENCE
We hear it all the time from our students, Pole really does help improve your confidence. Having a new way to express yourself through the art of Pole is so completely empowering and we love watching our students go through their journey of increased confidence. From seeing your body change, to feeling stronger and fitter, becoming more flexible, to feeling more than comfortable wearing a pair of shorts, to making new friends who lift you up and make you feel supported, loved and unstoppable - you will begin to walk around feeling more empowered and confident than you ever have, and that is the most amazing feeling, ever.
